Dr. Slaby's Farewell Address

Throughout my tenure on the WOA Board, I have heard each Past President say “I can’t believe how fast my year as President has gone,” and this is certainly true.  Wisconsin is a great state to practice optometry, and we can only continue to move forward with the help of all of our doctors.  We can’t stress enough about how fast health care is changing.  There is so much happening both at the state and federal levels, and we need everyone to stay alert.  The decisions being made by our government leaders to save budget health care dollars will impact us all in some manner.  We need to stay alert and diligent so that we continue to be able to practice optometry to the fullest extent of our education, training, and licensure.

I have been honored to serve as your WOA President this past year.  I want you all to know that optometry in Wisconsin remains strong.  You are all in good hands with your incoming WOA President, Dr. Jeff Sarazen.  I will miss being a part of the day-to-day and week-to-week involvement of this association.  However, it is time for me to step down and let new energy take charge.  I want to give a special thank you to the WOA Management Company staff of Mr. Peter Theo, Ms. Joleen Breunig and Mr. David Bobka for their unending dedication.  Our association really could not function at this high level without them.

Last year, in my welcoming address, I challenged each of you to get involved in some manner.  That challenge is still out there.  We all have busy lives, but if each of us does not contribute to our profession in some manner, it will suffer.  There is much to do; from volunteering time, resources, money, and so much more.  So, I will say farewell just as I closed last year in my welcoming address, “There are many different things that you can do.  Don’t leave it up to someone else…JUST DO SOMETHING!”

Happy Holidays to you and your families.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Lisa Slaby
WOA President
