The organizational structure of the WOA is very similar to most professional associations across the country. Decision making for the WOA is ultimately in the hands of the membership. The WOA is a democratically run association. The membership elects its leaders, approves financial decisions relating to the reserves and votes to amend association bylaws. The WOA adheres to strict governances and regulations.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors (BOD) is the elected governing body of the association. It consists of 24 members. Six are members of the Executive Committee, six members are directors at large, and 13 members are local society presidents.
WOA Executive Committee
The Execuitve Committee (EC) consists of the president, president elect, vice president, secretary, treasurer and immediate past president. The EC operates as the association's decision making body between BOD meetings.

WOA Directors at Large
Director at Large are members who are elected by the WOA membership to serve a three-year term on the WOA Board of Directors. According to the WOA bylaws, six elected Directors at Large are to serve on the board.

WOA Local Societies
In Wisconsin, the WOA is comprised of 12 Societies that meet to discuss issues relating to optometry on a local level. Each society elects a president who maintains a voting seat on the WOA Board of Directors. The WOA Societies include: Fox Cities, Indianhead, Lakeshore, South Central, Madison Area, Northeast, Southeast, Wisconsin Valley, Kettle Moraine, Gateway, Lake Winnebago and Milwaukee societies

WOA Staff
The WOA staff manages the daily operations of the association. The staff is made up of Executive Vice President Peter Theo, Associate Director Charles Brownlow, O.D., Director of Member Services Joleen Breunig, Director of Communications Mallory Block, and Director of Community Outreach and Administrative Services Meghan Endres
