WOA Spring Seminar

Wisconsin Optometric Association
2014 Spring Seminar
April 16-17, 2014
Olympia Resort - Oconomowoc, WI

The 2014 WOA Spring Seminar was held at the Olympia Resort in Oconomowoc, WI on April 16-17, 2014. Over 150 doctors of optometry attended this event for quality CE provided by Drs. Danica Marrelli, Stuart Richer, and Leonard Messner. Education was offered in the areas of glaucoma, systemic disease, neuro optometry, and pharmaceuticals. In addition, special guest Secretary David Ross from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) attended Spring Seminar and spoke to attendees, which was followed by lunch with the WOA leadership. The exhibit hall was packet, with over 50 companies in attendance to demonstrate their products and services for the benefit of the optometric profession. Alcon Laboratories, Allergan, Hale Vision, and Zeiss provided much-appreciated sponsorship for the 2014 WOA Spring Seminar.

“This was an excellent meeting…The info was helpful not only for clinical application, but for personal use as well. We are lucky to have this quality of education close to home,” commented one attending doctor. Also, a New OD in attendance noted “This is my first time at WOA – great meeting!” The overall event was summarized nicely by yet another doctor, who appreciated the “Excellent planning, execution, and implementation” of the 2014 WOA Spring Seminar. Dr. Marrelli is from the University of Houston College of Optometry and was overwhelmingly praised for the quality of her lectures, in both topics and her manner of presentation. Dr. Messner, of the Illinois Eye Institute and the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO), was appreciated for his informative material and straight-forward delivery. In lecturing on diet and nutrition in eye care, Dr. Richer, of the DVA Medical Center in Chicago, brought a unique variety of subject matter to this year’s event.

Spring Seminar is one of several events held by the WOA each calendar year in order to help optometrists earn the 30 hours of required continuing education required to maintain licensure in Wisconsin. Along with the WOA Convention and Annual Meeting, the event offers a full exhibit hall, and is generally held during the month of April. WOA would like to sincerely thank all doctors in attendance, our speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and DSPS Secretary David Ross for making this year’s Spring Seminar successful. Next year’s event will be held at the Madison Marriott West hotel in Middleton, WI on April 15-16, 2015, and we hope to see you there! Thank you!
