Spring Seminar

The 2013 WOA Spring Seminar in Review – Quality CE in Titletown!

The 2013 WOA Spring Seminar was held at the Hyatt on Main in Green Bay, WI on April 17-18, 2013. Held each year to provide doctors of optometry with quality Continuing Education they need maintain licensure, this year’s event offered 14 hours of Wisconsin Optometry Examining Board-approved education. Doctors attended courses in glaucoma, pharmaceuticals, systemic disease, and anterior segment. Education was presented by a trio of excellent speakers, including Dr. Greg Caldwell, ocular disease consultant in Duncansville and Johnstown, PA; Dr. Dale Heuer, professor and chairman of ophthalmology at the Medical College of Wisconsin and director of Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Eye Institute in Milwaukee; and Dr. Paul Karpecki, head of the ocular surface disease clinic and director of clinical research at Koffler Vision Group in Lexington, KY.

Overall, this year’s event was well-received and considered well-rounded in multiple aspects by those in attendance. An attending doctor summarized this sentiment perfectly by stating, “Well done event. Good speakers. WOA staff is great! Glaucoma hours are much appreciated.” Dr. Caldwell’s lectures were enjoyed by attendees, who praised his “excellent material, presented very well” with an “open, non-intimidating style.” Dr. Karpecki also earned all-around high marks from doctors; one doctor noted that “Dr. Karpecki is a speaker to have back as much as possible. Excellent in every way.”

Over 140 doctors attending the 2013 Spring Seminar, which also hosted a full exhibit call with 43 companies in attendance. The WOA would like to thank its event sponsors, including Allergan, Alcon Laboratories, Carl Zeiss Meditec, and Hale Vision Laser & Eye Centers, without which it would not be able to provide such quality CE to its members.

We would love to see more doctors in attendance at next year’s Spring Seminar, which will be held at the Olympia Resort in Oconomowoc, WI from April 16-17, 2014. We look forward to seeing you there!
