2012 WOA Convention and Annual Meeting
September 27-30, 2012 – Kalahari Resort, Wisconsin Dells, WI
The 2012 WOA Convention, held from September 27-30, witnessed over 260 eye care professionals from Wisconsin and across the United States in attendance. This year’s Convention took place at the Kalahari Resort & Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells, WI, and attending doctors had the opportunity to complete up to 24 hours of Wisconsin Optometry Examining Board (OEB) approved education delivered by top-notch professional speakers. Convention is WOA’s largest sponsored CE event of the calendar year.
One attending doctor noted that “full registration is an incredible bang for the buck; everything else is an added bonus.” Other attendees commented on the “good speakers and good atmosphere” at the event as well as the “high quality of the program” at Convention. Speaking of “good speakers,” Dr. Diana Shechtman was praised for being “Intelligent, well-spoken, and engaging; [she] makes you think.” The words “excellent” and “superb” were oft mentioned in comments on Drs. Shechtman and Dr. Robert Prouty.
Speakers at the 2012 WOA Convention included: Joseph Shovlin, O.D., from Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton, PA; Louis Probst, M.D., National Medical Director for TLC Laser Eye Centers; Robert Prouty, O.D., from Omni Eye Specialists in Denver, CO; Diana Shechtman, O.D., Associate Professor of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry; Robert Wooldridge, O.D., Director of the Eye Foundation of Utah in Salt Lake City; and Charles Brownlow, O.D., Manager of PMI, LLC and WOA Associate Director.
The exhibit hall housed approximately 60 exhibitors and 100-plus industry representatives providing doctors with the latest information, technology, and treatments available in the eye care profession today.
Congratulations are also in order to the WOA Officers and Directors elected at the Annual Business Meeting; they will take office on January 1, 2013 and include: Dr. Kellye Knueppel - President, Dr. Michael Tashner - President Elect, Dr. Eric Paulsen - Vice President, Dr. Chris Marquardt - Secretary, Dr. Ryan Ames - Treasurer, and Dr. Jeff Sarazen, Immediate Past President. Also elected at this meeting were Drs. Amber Dentz and David Hammes as Directors at Large, each for a three year term.
